Private visa for close relatives of Russian citizens

A foreign citizen who is a close relative of a Russian citizen may be issued a private visa for up to one year with a permitted period of stay in the Russian Federation during the entire validity period of the visa.

Close relatives under the Russian visa legislation:

  • spouse;
  • parents (adoptive parents);
  • children (adopted);
  • spouses of children;
  • full and half brothers and sisters;
  • grandparents;
  • grandchildren.

The following persons cannot apply for a visa for close relatives:

  • cohabitants who have not registered an official marriage;
  • children of the spouse of a foreign citizen from a previous marriage who are not family members of the applicant - a Russian citizen.

Such foreign citizens have the right to apply for a visas of other varieties corresponding to the purposes of their trip.

Pay attention:

If foreign citizens who are close relatives of a Russian citizen have Russian citizenship, they must enter the Russian Federation using their Russian passports. Obtaining Russian visas for foreign passports by citizens of the Russian Federation is prohibited.

To apply for an ordinary private visa for close relatives of a Russian citizen, a foreign citizen must provide:

  1. A written request of a Russian citizen the Russian Ambassador to Slovak Republic for visa issuance to his close relative who is a foreign citizen containing the necessary information:

    • surname, first name, patronymic (if any);
    • date of birth;
    • citizenship;
    • sex;
    • passport number;
    • the address of registration at the place of residence in the Russian Federation (in case of residence on the territory of the Russian Federation) and the address of the actual place of residence.

    • surname, first name(s), patronymic (if any) (in Latin in accordance with the machine-readable line in the passport and Cyrillic in accordance with the rules of transliteration);
    • date of birth;
    • citizenship;
    • sex;
    • passport number;
    • the multiplicity of the visa (multiple);
    • purpose of the trip (visiting relatives);
    • the requested period of entry (for example, from 06.10.2021 to 05.10.2022);
    • the place of the intended residence of the person applying for a visa, and the planned cities of visit.

    Pay attention:

    When staying outside the Russian Federation, the request must be signed by a Russian citizen in person at the official Russian visa center. When staying in the Russian Federation, the request must be signed by a Russian citizen at a notary office with notarized signature. Certification of the signature on the application by foreign notaries is not allowed.

    For a minor citizen of Russia inviting his father or mother, who are foreign citizens, the application is filled out and signed by his second parent or legal representative.

    For a minor (or incapacitated) citizen of Russia inviting his close relative who is a foreign citizen, the application is filled out and signed by his parent (legal representative).

  2. A valid international passport of a citizen of the Russian Federation and its copy (pages with photo and personal data) for Russian citizens signing an application at a Russian consular office or an official Russian visa center, (разворот с фото и персональными данными) для граждан России, подписывающих заявление в российском консульском учреждении или официальном российском визовом центре,

    or

    a copy of the “internal” passport of a Russian citizen for Russian citizens certifying the application at a notary in the Russian Federation.

  3. Documents confirming kinship with a foreign citizen:

    • for spouses: a Russian marriage certificate (or a foreign document confirming the marriage);
    • for children or parents: a Russian birth certificate (or a similar foreign document containing information about the child’s name, date and place of birth and about the parents);
    • for brothers and sisters: Russian birth certificates (or similar foreign documents containing information about the child’s name, date and place of birth and parents) of a Russian citizen and a foreign citizen confirming the presence of a common parent or parents;
    • for grandparents or grandchildren: Russian birth certificates (or similar foreign documents containing information about the child’s name, date and place of birth and parents) of a foreign citizen or citizen of the Russian Federation and his son or daughter or his father or mother, confirming kinship in a direct descending or ascending line, respectively;
    • for spouses of children: a Russian birth certificate (or a similar foreign document containing information about the child’s name, date and place of birth and parents) of the son or daughter of a citizen of the Russian Federation and a Russian marriage certificate (or a foreign document confirming the marriage) between the son or daughter of a citizen of the Russian Federation and a foreign citizen.

    Pay attention:

    If the surname or first name of a citizen of the Russian Federation differs in a Russian and a foreign passport (or residence permit), a corresponding foreign document must be submitted indicating the former surname or first name.

    If documents for visa processing for the spouse and children of a Russian citizen are submitted at the same time, then instead of marriage and birth certificates, an extract from the register of civil status records of a foreign state, which contains information about both the spouse and children, may be submitted.

    When submitting a request at the visa center, a Russian citizen presents originals or notarized copies of documents confirming kinship with a foreign citizen. Copies are taken from originals or notarized copies, originals or notarized copies are returned to a Russian citizen.

    When a Russian citizen signs a request at a notary in the Russian Federation, the applicant submits to the visa center notarized copies of documents of kinship in the Russian Federation (or copies certified at the consular institution of the Russian Federation abroad, or originals of foreign documents apostilled abroad and translated into Russian with a translation certificate in the prescribed manner) confirming the kinship of a citizen of the Russian Federation with a foreign citizen. Copies are taken from notarized copies, notarized copies are returned to the applicant.

    Foreign documents of kinship must be certified by an apostille certifying the authenticity of the signature of the official who issued the document. Foreign documents drawn up in a foreign language must be translated into Russian by an authorized translator whose signature must be certified by a Russian consular official or notary.

  4. A foreign passport with at least 2 blank pages for visas, the validity of which ends no earlier than 6 months after the expiration of the visa;
  5. Visa application form filled out on the website visa.kdmid.ru, printed out and signed by the applicant personally;
  6. A 3.5×4.5 cm color photograph on a light background with a clear full-face image without tinted or dark glasses and without a headdress (except for citizens who, by virtue of their national or religious affiliation, are depicted in a headdress in the passport photo). At the visa center you can take a photo for a visa (additional service);
  7. A medical insurance policy with the amount of medical services coverage of at least 30,000 € or an equivalent amount in another currency, valid on the territory of the Russian Federation and covering the validity period of the visa, except in cases based on reciprocity. The policy can be issued in English or Russian.
  8. Certificate of absence of the disease caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV infection). The certificate is provided in the original and must be issued no earlier than 3 months from the date of the intended entry into the Russian Federation. The requirement to provide a certificate does not apply to spouses, children and parents of citizens of the Russian Federation permanently residing in the territory of the Russian Federation.

Pay attention! The consular institution has the right to request additional documents for visa processing, invite for an interview or extend the visa processing period.

Pay attention! If you are not a citizen of Slovakia, you must additionally provide:

A permit for continuous stay in Slovakia for a period of more than 90 days for citizens of the following countries: Albania, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Egypt, India, Ireland, Macedonia, Mexico, New Zealand, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Permanent residence permit in Slovakia or other similar document for citizens of the following countries: Algeria, Angola, Afghanistan, Georgia, Iraq, China, DPRK, Libya, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Rwanda, Syria, Somalia, Chad, Sri Lanka, Ethiopia.

**If the applicant is not a citizen of Slovakia or the European Union, the amount of the consular fee is determined by the Tariff of consular fees for issuing visas established by the Russian Embassy of in Slovakia.

If an international treaty of the Russian Federation and the applicant's country of citizenship establishes special terms for the consideration of visa applications and special amounts of consular fees, or provides for a refusal to collect them, the terms of consideration and the amount of consular fees provided for by the international treaty apply to the visa application of such an applicant.

Filling out visa application form

The application form for a Russian visa is filled out only in electronic form and only on the website of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia: https://visa.kdmid.ru.

After filling out the visa application form on the website, the applicant must print it out and sign it personally, as well and attach a photo that meets the requirements of ICAO.
